KOTA KINABALU: All 15 commandos who were arrested pertaining to a shooting incident in Sabah’s east coast Lahad Datu town last month have been charged in court.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said 14 of the soldiers were charged at the Lahad Datu court on Tuesday under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
All pleaded guilty to the offence and were each jailed two weeks and fined RM5,000.
“Another soldier, Khairul Anuar Amdan was charged under Section 302 for murder and also under the Firearms Act 1960. He claimed trial to both charges,” Hamza said.
He said the two civilians who were injured and later detained for questioning have been released.
The incident, which occurred outside a 24-hour convenience store near a karaoke centre in the centre of Lahad Datu town at about 4.45am on May 28, saw Lans Koperal Mohd Fiffixe-zafey Mat Hussin, 28, being fatally shot.

Two men who worked as bouncers at a nearby karaoke lounge were also injured in the incident.
