Datuk Seri G.Palanivel has won the MIC president's post uncontested after nominations closed today.
No other contenders came forward to submit their nomination papers at the party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.. Only Palanivel filed his nomination papers for the post this morning. He received 617 nominations.
Party members turned up by the thousands at the MIC headquarters in anticipation of the official announcement of Palanivel winning the president's post.
The former journalist became acting president when he took over from Datuk Seri S.Samy Vellu, who stepped down in 2010 after holding the post for 31 years.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had advised Palanivel and his deputy Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam to avoid a contest, so as to strengthen the party which did not perform well in the last general elections. - September 1, 2013.
