Police have arrested a foreigner and seized fake guns that are worth RM318,520 in their follow-up raids in Kuala Lumpur.
More than RM300,000 worth of fake guns have been seized by the police following the arrest of a seller.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai told a press conference at district police headquarters here that the suspect, a 26-year-old foreigner, was arrested by a police team on patrol.
“Inspection of his car led to the discovery of 25 fake rifles, two fake handguns and 480 ‘bullets’. Following that, two raids were conducted at houses in Taman Fadason, Jinjang and Taman Megah Kepong.
“In total, police seized 2,078 replica guns of various kinds, with an estimated value of RM318,520. They included fake handguns, rifles and sniper rifles.
“We believe the suspect has been active since October and that he sold the fake guns online. The items were brought in from China and were sold for between RM50 and RM200 per piece,” he said.
On a related issue, ACP Beh said action can be taken against those caught with realistic gun props or toys during events such as cosplay conventions.
“If from afar it looks like a toy, then it’s OK. But if it looks like a real gun from far, then that is not allowed.
“Having just a different coloured tip is not enough. If a police patrol catches you, we can take action,” he said.
He added that criminals could use such realistic toy guns for crimes and that some toys even “feel realistic”.
“You point this at somebody's back and it feels like the real thing.
“Some can also injure people and at close range, even blind people, when fired,” he said.
