KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) has successfully organised 75 business events in the country till August this year, translating into a contribution of RM352 million in economic impact so far.
Among the business events are the World Congress of Nephrology 2022, International Printing, Paper, Packaging Machinery Exhibition 2022 and the 21st International Architecture, Interior Design & Building Exhibition 2022.
Chief executive officer Datuk Seri Abdul Khani Daud said the reopening of Malaysia’s border to international delegates would allow MyCEB to reshape the business events industry and restore economic activities in the country.
“We have launched our Malaysia Business Events Strategic Marketing Plan for business events from 2021-2030, aiming to bring more large-scale events including a plan to bid for the World Expo.
“So far, we have successfully won 166 business event bids for 2022 until 2030,” he told Bernama.
Among the events are the 12th UICH Les Clefs d’Or Asian Congress in 2023, the Union Internationale des Architectes International Forum in 2024, the 20th Congress of Asia Pacific Federation of Coloproctology & the 14th Asian Society of Stoma Rehabilitation Congress in 2025 and the World Union of Wound Healing Society Congress in 2026.
Abdul Khani said that over the past 12 years, business events in Malaysia have been a thriving sector enabling MyCEB and its strategic partners to bag 1,651 business events which added an estimated RM16.7 billion to Malaysia’s economy.
Hence, he hopes the Finance Ministry would consider more allocation in Budget 2023 for MyCEB to operate well and be able to secure more business events in the near future.
Commenting on the Meet in Malaysia @ Malaysia Business Events Week 2022 (MIM @ MBEW 2022) which kicks off today until Sept 1, he said the event comprises several activities such as business to business sessions, workshops and strategic roundtables.
Around 700 delegates and 35 speakers from around the world are expected to join this seventh year edition event to discuss on the growth and sustainability of the business events industry.
Carrying the theme ‘Reshaping Business Events’, the four-day interactive event aspires to reshape the business events industry as the world welcomes the endemic period, Abdul Khani said.
“This year’s event theme has been specially created to revive Malaysia’s business events ecosystem by exchanging knowledge and building relationships to elevate professionalism with resilience.
“It will also promote Malaysia as a global business events destination, highlighting its accessibility to much of the world’s population, its tourist attractions, state-of-the-art infrastructure and the famed Malaysian hospitality,” he said.
He added that the highlight of the event is a signing of memorandum of cooperation between Malaysia and Indonesia.
“It is our fervent hope that through international collaborations, Malaysia will in future stage more prominent conferences and exhibitions that will uplift the business events industry scene,” he said.
MIM @ MBEW 2022 is held at the World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur and officiated by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
In conjunction with the event, MyCEB has initiated a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme called ‘Lend a Hand’ last week at Zoo Negara with 60 children from Pertubuhan Rahoma Darul Fakir helping to refurbish zoo facilities, thus creating awareness for wildlife. – BERNAMA
