A video went viral on social media yesterday showing a woman venting her frustration in front of a polling station because it was closed.

KUCHING: The claim that some polling centres in the Johor elections yesterday were closed early is not true, said law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said the closing time of the polling centres is gazetted according to various factors, including the number of voters.

“Yesterday, there was a complaint from a woman who asked why her polling centre was closed at 2pm. I was informed the polling centre was to cater to only 170 voters and was gazetted to close at 2pm.

“So, it must be closed at that time. After 2pm the votes will not be taken into account. This is the law,” he told reporters at an event in Kampung Tanjung Bako here today.

Elaborating, Wan Junaidi said the decision to set the opening hours of a polling station was not up to an individual or police.

“The decision does not lie with an individual or the police. The matter has been gazetted and all parties have been informed.

“Voters should know their polling centre’s closing time so that they will not be late,” he said.

Polling Centres Early Closure: In Future SPR Must Consider Closing All Centres At Same Time Even If Its To Wait For Potentially One Vote!

After spending RM96 million for the Johor PRN, SPR should ensure uniformity in the opening and closing time of the polling centres. Many were not aware that there were polling centres closing early. They should standardize matters like this.

SPR should strive to make state election more efficient in the name of democracy. No agency should be given absolute power, there must be check and balances in place to correct what is wrong there & there and not just take every issue to court!

They should also bring the cost of the elections down and control costs.  How RM420 Million was spent for three state elections must be looked into by Parliament. I an sure the IT Equipment used in GE14 in 2018 can still be used.
PRN Sabah - RM130 juta; Melaka -RM45 juta , Sarawak -RM149 juta dan Johor - RM96 juta
