KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): An Indonesian woman was fined RM1, 800 by the Magistrate’s Court here after she pleaded guilty to offering sexual services to a policeman in July.

Magistrate Noorasyikin Sahat meted out the fine on 45-year-old Sari Meity Purnama, in default of three months' jail if she failed to pay the fine.

Sari Meity was charged with soliciting RM250 from a policeman for the purpose of prostitution in front of premises opposite the Ancasa Express Hotel, Jalan Pudu, here at 7.30pm on July 31.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Wafa Zainal Abidin pressed for just punishment to serve as a lesson to the accused who was not represented.

The accused, who was crying during the appeal, sought leniency on the grounds that she had to work to pay for the medical expenses of her mother who was currently hospitalised in Indonesia.

Also, in the same court, 20-year-old Thai Suriyong Chaphithak was fined RM1, 800, in default of three months in jail after she pleaded guilty to soliciting RM210 from another policeman for the purpose of prostitution.

She was charged to have committed the offence at the Seri Cempaka Apartment Hotel, Level 1, Tower 2, Menara PGRM, Jalan Pudu Ulu, Cheras, at 4.30pm on Aug 4.

The accused, represented by lawyer M. K. Thas, appealed for leniency on the grounds that she has two dependents - her younger siblings - and she has valid travel documents.

Both accused were charged under Section 372 (B) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to one year, a fine or both upon conviction. - Bernama
