PETALING JAYA: Malaysian “human calculator” Yaashwin Sarawanan, 15, who has been making the rounds on social media with his superior maths skills, tonight won second place in Season Three of Asia’s Got Talent.

Taiwan’s Eric Chien, the magician, came in first, bagging US$100,000 (RM412,000) prize money, followed by Yaashwin in second place.

In third place was Filipino contemporary acrobatic act “Power Duo”.

Malaysian female vocal group Nama, unfortunately, did not make the cut tonight at the finals.

These were the only two acts from Malaysia that made it to the finals.

They were part of 24 shortlisted candidates who made it to the finals at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore.

Yasshwin, a SMK Bandar Tun Hussein Onn 2 student, was last month announced as being part of the finals of the popular TV show.

This came after he demonstrated time and again his superior math skills at being able to solve a mathematical problem in less than a second.

Yaashwin is the International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Competition 2017 champion.

The last time a contestant competing under the Malaysian banner made it to the final was during the show’s second season with Syrian magician Sobhi Shaker, who came to Malaysia in order to escape the Syrian civil war.
