PETALING JAYA: It’s back to school for Malaysian teen Yaashwin Sarawanan, whose amazing math skills got him the runner-up spot at the recent Asia’s Got Talent Season Three finale.

“I will be focusing on furthering my studies and hope that I will continue to have other chances to share how interesting mathematics is and hopefully inspire others with my passion,” said the 15-year-old, whose impressive math skills earned him the nickname “Human Calculator”.

In Wednesday’s final, the SMK Bandar Tun Hussein Onn (2) student finished second behind Taiwanese magician Eric Chien.

“I am so humbled to have had the chance to represent Malaysia on such a recognised platform as Asia’s Got Talent,” Yaashwin said in a press release.

Yaashwin was one of nine finalists vying for the top prize.

Another Malaysian contender, all-female vocal group Nama (comprising Nur Fazrina Ani, 28; Noor Syamimi Makhetar, 24; Norfazira Malik, 24; and Nur Farahida Dolhadi, 24) placed among the bottom three.

The 67th adaptation of the Guinness-World-Record-breaking hit Got Talent format created by Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment, Asia’s Got Talent’s third season saw hundreds of acts from 17 countries vying for that one big break.

With Yaashwin placing second and Nama among the nine finalists, this season marks Malaysia’s strongest performance on Asia’s Got Talent yet.
