Man nabbed on suspicion of raping schoolgirl

SIBU: A 27-year old man has been nabbed on suspicion of raping a schoolgirl in a hotel in Kapit, about three hours' express boat journey from here.
Kapit OCPD, deputy supt Freddy Bian said the alleged offence took place for three days and the 17-year-old victim was confined by the suspect in the hotel room.
DSP Freddy said at about 2.30pm on March 31, the girl – a student of a school in Song – had met the suspect in Gelangang Kenyalang Kapit.
"The suspect told the victim he came from Sibu to look for her girlfriend who he knew," he added.
At 10pm that day, the suspect came into the room and raped her. He raped her three times over three days.
"He threatened the girl, saying he would kill her if she reported the matter to the police," said DSP Freddy.
However, at about 3am on April 2, while the suspect was sound asleep, the victim took the opportunity to escape.
She then lodged a report at the Kapit Police Station.
DSP Freddy said when the suspect realised that the victim had fled, he took an express boat to Sibu.
However, the police were waiting for him at the expressboat terminal and arrested him.
The case is being investigated under Section 375 of the Penal Code for rape.
