Four detained, 327 summonses issued during 'Op Tutup' at Jalan Raja Laut

KUALA LUMPUR: The city’s Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department (TEID) issued 327 summonses and detained four people during an operation at Jalan Raja Laut here on Saturday night.

Dubbed “Op Tutup”, the three-hour special exercise was jointly conducted by TEID, Dang Wangi’s Criminal Investigation Department and the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department, in conjunction with the New Year celebrations.

City police deputy TEID chief Superintendent Ahmad Adnan Basri, who led the operation, said 970 motorcycles and 138 cars were inspected.

“A total of 327 summonses for various offences, such as driving without valid road tax or without licence were issued.

“We detained a local man and three Thai women who were travelling in the same car. The man was brought back to the police station for a urine test, while the women were taken in for documentation purposes,” he said.

During the operation, police also stopped a 43-year-old taxi driver who had 19 arrest warrants against him. He had 44 summonses with an estimated penalty of RM13,000. Adnan said he will be charged in court next week.

He said the operation was focused on motorcyclists, in order to crack down on road gangsters and illegal racing.

Meanwhile, Adnan said 600 officers will be deployed to control traffic in the city on New Year’s Eve to help avoid congestion.

“We will focus on Bukit Bintang, Pavilion and KLCC, all hotpots for the countdown,” he added. © New Straits Time
