Malaysian film director wins RM140K grand prize again

Malaysian filmmaker Tan Seng Kiat has won the grand prize at the Taipei Golden Horse Film Project Promotion (FPP) 2017 for his latest film project One Fine Day.
The Shuttle Life director’s upcoming film project beat 40 entries to nab the top prize which comes with a cash grant of NTD1mil (approx. RM140,000).
This is the second time Tan has won the top prize at the FPP, which is a funding platform where new movie projects are matched with potential investors.
In 2014, he won for Shuttle Life, his first full-length feature film which has already picked up seven awards at three film festivals this year.
Shuttle Life’s international accolades including Best Film, Best Actor (Jack Tan) and Best Cinematographer (Chen Ko-chin) at the Asian New Talent competition of the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF); Best Actor (Jack), Best Cinematography (Chen), and Best Production Design (Lim Chik Fong) at the 12th Chinese Young Generation Film Forum Awards in Wuhan, China; and a Special Jury Award at the 29th Malaysia Film Festival in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, Shuttle Life has received nominations in two categories at Taipei’s 54th Golden Horse Awards (GHA): Best New Director and Best Cinematography.
The awards presentation ceremony for the GHA, which honours the best in Chinese language films, will take place at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei, Taiwan on Nov 25.
In Shuttle Life, Malaysian singer-actor Jack plays a poor young man struggling to provide for his little sister and mentally unstable mother, played by Taiwanese filmmaker Sylvia Chang.
