Cops nab 33 revellers at ‘pill party’

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested 33 youngsters, including lower secondary students, for allegedly taking part in a “pill party” at a luxury apartment here.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman said they were alerted following an anonymous tip-off on Tuesday.
“Our Narcotics Crime Investigation Department raided the apartment along Jalan Sultan Ismail and checked 47 revellers there.
“Thirty-three of them tested positive for drugs and were arrested. Twenty-five of them were male and the others, female,” he said at the Dang Wangi police headquarters yesterday.
He said those arrested were aged between 14 and 28, and the host of the party was also arrested.
“We found two pills believed to be methamphetamines.
“We suspect they disposed of the remaining drugs while we were attempting to get into the apartment,” he said, adding that the revellers have been remanded for three days for investigations.
He added that none of them have prior records.
“We are investigating the case under Section 12(2) and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“Those thinking of taking part in such activities should think hard about it. If you do get caught by us, we will show no mercy,” he said.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, police arrested five suspects over a robbery involving 18 foreigners near Jalan Loke Yew.
“We received a report on Saturday that a foreigner was ambushed by a suspect on a motorcycle along Jalan Loke Yew at around 1.10am.
“The suspect then forced the victim to lead him and five other accomplices, armed with knives, metal rods and sticks, to his house where they robbed 17 other foreigners of their cash and valuables,” he said, adding that one of the foreigners was beaten by the suspects.
He said based on this information, police raided a premises along Jalan Loke Yew on Tuesday and arrested five suspects.
“We also seized 30 mobile phones believed to be stolen.
“We are now on the hunt for a sixth suspect,” he said.
On another unrelated case, ACP Mohd Sukri said police have crippled a syndicate that stole luggage from unsuspecting hotel guests in the city.
“We launched Ops Beg on April 20 and managed to arrest three Indonesian men, an Indonesian woman, a Myanmar man and a local man in a series of raids.
“Based on our investigations, the syndicate would come to five-star hotels in the city between 6am and 10am, during breakfast, and target guests who were eating,” he said, adding that police seized an assortment of currency believed to be stolen, 47 mobile phones, four lap- tops and five tablet devices.
He said the syndicate would steal the items and sell it to the local man who works at a mobile phone shop.
“We are now on the hunt for another suspect, an Indonesian known only as Yasin@Kojak,” he said.
Those with information on the cases should contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or visit the nearest police station.
