AirAsia plane veers off runway in Kota Baru

KOTA BARU: An AirAsia aircraft veered off the runway and got stuck in the mud at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport on Tuesday night.
AirAsia confirmed that flight AK6443, which was scheduled to depart Kota Baru for Kuala Lumpur at 10.25pm, Tuesday, was involved in "an incident while taxiing on the runway".
"All guests and crew on board the flight are safe and no injuries have been reported," said AirAsia in a statement following the incident.
It added that all guests were attended to and all necessary assistance was provided.
AirAsia said another flight, AK6446, which was scheduled to arrive in Kota Baru from Kuala Lumpur was cancelled.
It is learnt that only turbo propeller aircraft were allowed to land at and take off from the airport for several hours following the incident.
The airline later said in a follow-up statement that all AirAsia flights were operating normally from Sultan Ismail Petra Airport on Wednesday.
