KUALA TERENGGANU: A post-mortem on a two-year-old toddler identified as Nudzirah Nur Safiah Sabaruddin who died after being brought to a health clinic on Monday revealed numerous wounds on her body.

State Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said there were burn marks on the left leg of the toddler and tears in the scalp on the left side of her head.

"Investigations also revealed that the victim has old and fresh injuries all over her body, including on her face, head and legs.

"Both her ears and lips were also torn; there were bruises on her back and third-degree burns," he said in a statement here, Wednesday.

He said the victim, the youngest of eight children, was believed to have succumbed to infection as a result of untreated wounds.

She was brought to the Paka health clinic on Monday at 3pm by her sister and brother in-law, with whom she was staying at Paka, Dungun.

She passed away several hours later.

According to Wan Abd Aziz, the victim lived with her sister and brother in law as their parents were working in Kuala Lumpur.

Both have since been detained for further investigation. – Bernama
