IGP wants RM2mil love scam victim to help in probe

THE STAR
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are urging a woman who was cheated out of RM2mil in a love scam to come forward to help in the investigations.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar(pic) said the woman should help them bring those who cheated her to justice.
"We learned about a woman who was cheated out of RM2mil through a love scam and we are trying to get her to help us in the case," he said at a press conference at Bukit Aman Monday.
Khalid said it is possible that the woman is embarrassed and does not want her plight to be publicised.
"However, we cannot let the culprits get away with it. I hope she steps forward and helps us in the investigation," he said.
Khalid was speaking to reporters after receiving a donation of RM80,000 in air-conditioning equipment for the Royal Malaysian Police College's Surau Al-A'limin from DRB-HICOM Bhd.
He said many Malaysian women are still falling victim to online love scams despite frequent efforts by the police to create awareness.
"Now, even a growing number of men are being duped in these scams," he said.
Khalid also praised the Commercial Criminal Investigation Department over the arrest of two foreigners, including two Nigerians, who were involved in love scams.

"With the arrest of the three in Cheras and Kajang, we have solved eight cases involving RM2.1mil in losses," he said.
