Selangor state secretary warns people against scams offering memberships

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor Palace has never issued any royal emblem or document to the public to indicate that they are part of the royal household.
As such, the public is warned against offers of such items to them, said Selangor State Secretary Datuk Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya.
“The people have to be careful as it is only a scam.
“There is no such emblem from the Istana,” he said when contacted yesterday.
He was commenting on the arrests of two men believed to be involved in selling memberships into the Selangor royal household.
Police also seized a car with yellow licence plates bearing the words “Istana Diraja Selangor” and “Y.M. Raja Empat Selangor Tengku Luthfi B. Almarhum Tengku Badli Shah.”
The car was also fitted with flashing lights and sirens, and had stickers with Selangor royalty emblems.

Mohd Amin said the state government was taking measures to stop such activities, including beefing up the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Enactment 1962.
“We are working to strengthen the enactment, which is to prevent irresponsible people from abusing the good name of the Selangor Palace and to punish those found involved in such scams,” he added.
The enactment stated that no one is allowed to use the royal crest, Selangor royal title, royal emblem and yellow plates on their vehicles except for the Sultan and the Raja Muda.
Those who use the emblems on their vehicles without the consent of the Sultan could be fined up to RM1,000.
Only five groups of people are allowed to put special state emblems on their vehicles.
They are the Anak-anak Raja Bergelar, the royal council members, the state executive councillors, the Orang-orang Besar Daerah and the state assemblymen
