The Penang Road Transport Department has demanded an end to rumours on the department over the recent murder of a car wash owner in the state.
Penang RTD director Nurul Habib Abdul Guduse said the department would not hesitate to take legal action or lodge police reports on those who slander the department on the case.
“The accusations that we were behind the murder is irresponsible and without basis.
“Only stupid people would believe such claims. This is now a police case and I would like to plead to everyone to stop the rumour mongering,” he told a press conference at a road block at the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway here today.
Habib said his men were gathering evidence of those who had slandered the department and would hand it over to the police for investigation.
“We will lodge a police report as soon as possible. And to claims by a non-governmental organisation that believes that we were involved, we will take legal action on them soon,” he said.
Car wash operator Syed Amen Jainul Abdin, 46, was shot six times outside a superbike shop along Jalan Dato Keramat early Thursday. He was found slumped in the driver’s seat of a car.
Amen gained prominence when a video of him complaining about RTD’s poor service, among others, went viral.
On New Year’s Day, the businessman had pleaded not guilty at the magistrate's court here for swearing at a Batu Uban RTD officer.
He was accused to have said 'JPJ ***cau, dia orang semua makan rasuah' to a RTD officer last Nov.
Since Amen’s death, gossip about him being shot by the RTD had been circulating on social media, to the chagrin of the department.
