KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Ministry does not agree with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad's (KTMB) move to impose full adult fares on children aged above seven who do not possess student concession cards.
"We do not agree with the (latest) decision," said Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai at the launch of the China High Speed Railway Showcase at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre Friday.
Liow said the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) would discuss the matter with KTMB.
"SPAD will talk to KTMB to ensure we continue with the old policy," he said.
Starting this month, children below two years of age will ride for free while those between the ages of two and six would be given a 50% discount.
Previously, children up to the age of four rode for free and a 50% fare discount was then given to children aged between four and 12.
KTMB in a statement on Thursday said that students from primary and secondary schools and institutions of higher learning would continue to enjoy 50% discount on the fares.
