PETALING JAYA: About 200,000 consumers in Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur are expected to experience water cuts and low water pressure due to a burst pipe at Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara.
Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) said the pipe, made of mild steel and measuring 1,000mm in size, had burst at 1am Wednesday.
The pipe is located at the outlet of the Effingham reservoir at Jalan PJU 6A/3A, Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara in Damansara.
“Syabas has conducted preliminary checks at the site and investigated the cause of the damage. Syabas, via its appointed contractors, are currently carrying out repair works.
“We estimate that the repair works will be completed and supply to be restored at 6am on Thursday, (Dec 4) since the digging works require more time,” Syabas said in a statement on its website Wednesday.
The areas affected in the Petaling area are Phileo Damansara, Kampung Sungai Penchala, Eastin Hotel, Pinggiran TTDI, Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam (KGPA), Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club (KLGCC), Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Bukit Lanjan, SS 1 to SS 9, SS 9A, Section 11 to 14, Ara Damansara, SS 20 to SS 22A Damansara Utama, Section 20, 21 and 22, and Universiti Malaya.
The areas affected in Kuala Lumpur include Setiapuspa, Medan Damansara, Bukit Damansara and Bukit Kiara.
Syabas said in order to conduct repair works on the pipe, the outlet at the Effingham reservoir had to be closed at 5.20am on Wednesday.
“Following this incident, it is estimated that 42,000 accounts or 200,000 users around Petaling and Kuala Lumpur will experience unscheduled water disruption and low water pressure,” Syabas said.
It said emergency water supply will be provided using four water lorry tankers.
“The number of tankers will be increased if needed. We urge consumers in the affected areas to use water wisely in facing the water disruption,” Syabas said.
