KL MAYOR ASKS BIKER GROUP TO REFER POTHOLES TO DBKL

Refer potholes with DBKL, KL mayor tells volunteer group

Kuala Lumpur mayor today asked a group of bikers, led by actor Azlan Sani Zawawi, who were going around repairing potholes in the city to refer with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) before conducting any voluntary repair works.
Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said this was because patching up potholes are the responsibility of DBKL.
He said, in a statement, that it was not right for society to carry out works that were under the local authority’s purview.
“Those are DBKL's responsibility and it need to be referred directly to them,” Phesal said, responding to The Rakyat Post's report last week on the bikers' effort to repair potholes in Taman Sri Rampai, Wangsa Maju and Wangsa Melawati.
The report said the group, known as Silaturrahim Brotherhood, conducted road repair works following a lack of response from the local authorities.
To this, Phesal admitted that some DBKL contractors were not doing a good job, but insisted that it does not mean that people should take matter into their own hands and take over DBKL’s role.
“They still need to refer directly to DBKL so that rectifying action can be taken,” he said.
“Some of the road surfaces can be damaged within a day or two after being repaired and this problem needs to be handled effectively, while some could have been damaged due to utility works that require monitoring.
“Repairing roads are costly and takes a long time to rectify.” he said.
Phesal advised voluntary group like the bikers association to channel complaints directly to DBKL instead of acting on their own to resolve the problems. – December 8, 2014.
