Kelantan police on the hunt for robbery suspects
KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have made it a priority to apprehend two suspects, whom they described as dangerous after they robbed and attempted to rape one of their victims in Pasir Puteh.
Police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mazlan Lazim said police were hot on the trail of the robbers who struck at a house at Kampung Wakaf Berangan, Sri Aman, and injured a young woman and her mother after the former refused to allow the assailants to rape her.
The woman’s 59-year-old father hoped that the suspects would be arrested and brought to justice.
“I am angry with the suspects who were cruel and caused trauma to my wife and daughter. I hope they will be arrested and punished,” he said.
The young woman has since been allowed to leave hospital after being treated for bruises and knife cuts on her face yesterday.
DCP Mazlan said police were trying to trace the registration plate of a motorcycle used by the suspects to make their getaway.
“It is a matter of time before we have the information. We are sure that the suspects are locals as they spoke Kelantanese.
“What the suspects did was cruel and extreme. Stern action will be taken when the suspects are arrested,” DCP Mazlan told reporters after visiting the victim’s 58-year-old mother, who was still admitted at the Universiti Sains Hospital at Kubang Kerian.
She is reported to be in a stable condition.
In the 2pm incident on Monday, both the suspects were said to have been angry after the young woman refused to hand over her ring and cellphone.
One of them attempted to rape her but her shouts and cries for help drove both suspects away.
DCP Mazlan urged those with information on the case to come forward to assist police in their investigations.
“The suspects will be apprehended and we will throw the book at them,” he said.
