GEORGE TOWN: Police arrested nine teenagers to assist in the investigation into two incidents of fighting at a secondary school in Butterworth recently.
Penang Police Chief, Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said, eight of them are school students while the other is no longer in school.
According to him, all those under age were arrested on Friday and released on Saturday.
"I confirm that there have been arrests in relation to two different cases at the school in question. The arrests were made on Friday.
"They were all detained separately in Butterworth but were released on police bail today.
"So far we have detained nine teenagers for questioning," he said when met at the Tanjong MP's Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House here on Saturday.
He said both cases were investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing injury and Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
Previously, two separate incidents of fighting at the same school went viral on social media and received various reactions from netizens.
One of them, which lasts 32 seconds, shows a male student being punched and kicked repeatedly by several students. It is believed to have happened in a toilet and went viral on social media since yesterday.
Most of them include the victims and a group of students who also appear to be 'spectators' of the bullying action seen wearing face masks and wearing sportswear.
