PETALING JAYA: PKR has reiterated its rejection of the gutter politics levelled against its deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, who has been implicated in a sex video scandal.

Party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, in condemning the "scurrilous attack" against the Economic Affairs Minister, saying; "PKR reiterates its commitment in rejecting the disgusting gutter politics that we now witness. This country needs to focus on economic and social issues and not be dragged into this dishonourable arena."

The scandal surfaced when a video purportedly of Azmin and Santubong PKR youth chief Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz having sex went viral on Tuesday (June 11).

"The PKR political bureau has met today (June 12) to discuss several issues including the claims by a PKR member named Haziq against Azmin.

"We also fully support investigations by the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in this case and hope that the processes can be carried out fairly and carefully," he told reporters after the PKR political bureau meeting at the party headquarters here on Wednesday (June 12).

Anwar stressed that the party was not involved in the sex video scandal, saying that there was no evidence to suggest that it came from within.

"The only thing we considered was that this was a scurrilous attack which we condemn notwithstanding the source.

"We have no evidence to suggest that the party is in any way involved," he said, adding that Azmin remains as the party deputy president.

Anwar, who himself was linked and charged with sodomy cases in the past, described the latest accusations against Azmin as "deplorable" and sickening".

"Certainly I thought what I experienced should be the last. Unfortunately this trend seems to continue.

"Naturally I'm strongly opposed to this from a moral, Islamic and ethical point of view.

"In the whole spirit of moral and ethics, this is not the way we should be judged and assessed in politics and society," said Anwar.

He added that the party would meet again to discuss the matter, which does not seem to be dying off soon.

Anwar said the party would also consult lawyers for legal advice and give space to the authorities to conduct their investigations.
