Attack on entertainment outlet was over a woman, say police

KUALA LUMPUR: Police believe the attack on an entertainment outlet in Jalan Klang Lama last Friday (May 3) was sparked due to jealousy over a woman.
City police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said they believed it was the result of a prior fight earlier that night in a club in Cheras.
“It is believed that jealousy was the cause which led to a show of strength.
“We view this matter very seriously. As of now, 14 suspects have been arrested.
“We are also currently looking for four men to assist in our investigations. We urge them to surrender to the police or else we will trace them down,” he said at a press conference at the contingent police headquarters here on Thursday (May 9).
One of the wanted man has been confirmed by Comm Mazlan to be Datuk Seri Liow Soon Hee, who was in 2017 charged with three counts of causing grievous hurt to two Rela volunteers.
“We need him to assist us because there might be some connection to the mastermind (of the attack),” he said.
Comm Mazlan said the police were also investigating the possibility of a shareholder or partner to the outlet’s owner being involved in gang activities.
On May 3, a group of men armed with sticks went to the outlet at about 9.20pm, and damaged equipment and furniture.
However, no one was harmed during the attack.
The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code for damaging public property in the process of committing mischief and rioting under Section 148 of the same Code.
In an unrelated matter, the police will investigate one of their own men after an arrested suspect fell to his death after jumping from a still-moving vehicle.
“The suspect was arrested on May 8 for drug possession.
He was then brought in a van to the lockup but along the way (near Jalan Semarak), the suspect attempted to flee by jumping out.
“However, he was still cuffed and he fell face first on the road, which led to his death,” Comm Mazlan said.
He added that the case was being investigated for police negligence as well as drug offences.
“Investigations are being conducted on the personnel that was escorting the suspect,” he added.
Regarding last Saturday’s “405” rally, Comm Mazlan said that the event organiser would give their statements on May 17.
“As of now, 11 statements have been recorded,” he said.
