KEPALA BATAS: Thousands of eggs were scattered along Km 115.3 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) here this morning after a car rammed into the rear the egg-laden lorry.

In the 9am incident, the front portion of a car driven by 26-year-old Heng Tek Cheng was badly damaged but the driver was not hurt.

It was learnt that he could have dozed off prior to the crash.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the car was heading towards Sungai Petani and was on the left lane of the expressway when the incident occurred.

He said the driver may have dozed off and rammed into the back of the lorry.

Both the vehicles then crashed into the road divider on the right lane.

"No casualties were reported and the 55-year-old lorry driver also did not sustain any injury.

"Traffic congestion occurred following the accident as the vehicles blocked both the lanes on the highway," he said.

Noorzainy said police were investigating the cause of the accident.

A video of the accident was caught on camera by a road user, and has since made its rounds in social media. © New Straits Times Press
