Pakistani, Bangladeshi nabbed for impersonating cops to commit robbery

SHAH ALAM: Two men, a Pakistani and a Bangladeshi, have been detained by the police for allegedly impersonating members of the force to commit robbery.
Shah Alam district police chief ACP Shafien Mamat said the suspects, both aged 32, were picked up between 4am and 6am in Kota Kemuning and Section 25 here on July 20 following a police report lodged by a Bangladeshi victim three days earlier.
He said in the arrests, police seized a reflective vest bearing the logo of the Royal Malaysia Police and another vest bearing the word “Security”, which were believed to have been worn by the suspects to dupe their victims before robbing them.
“Also seized were a stolen Honda City car, fake police authority card, several ATM cards, cash in various currencies, mobile phones, foreign identification documents, wallets, a small pair of scissors and an iron rod.
“Police are still investigating how the (police) vest was obtained...Some shops are selling it (vest) but the buyers must provide their personal information as security measures,” he told reporters here yesterday.
Shafien said police believed that the men, who had been targeting foreigners as their victims, had been involved in the criminal activity over the past four months and did not rule out that there could be other accomplices involved.
“With the arrests, police had solved at least five robbery cases in Shah Alam,” he said, adding that the men were being detained by the Subang Jaya district police to facilitate investigation into robbery cases in that district.
The suspects were being investigated under Section 395/397 and Section 170 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Shafien said police detained three members of secret societies, in their 30s, here between July 21 and 24 on suspicion of killing a man, who was also believed to be a secret society member.
“We are investigating which secret societies they (suspects) belong to,” he said, adding that the men were being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
On June 30, the 34-year-old victim was found covered in blood in front of a shop in Kota Kemuning near here after he was believed to have been involved in a car accident. However, he died three days later.-- BERNAMA
