90 illegals detained under Ops Nyah 2

PETALING JAYA: Ninety foreigners were nabbed in a special operation to curb illegal immigrants in Kuala Lumpur.
The operation on Friday, called Ops Nyah 2, was a joint operation involving the police, National Registration Department and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Amar Singh said the operation lasted about 12 hours and saw 273 people being checked at various locations in the city, including Brickfields and Jalan Petaling.
“We detained 33 Myanmar nationals, 23 Nepalese, 20 Indonesians, five Nigerians, three Indians, three Filipinos, two Pakistanis and one Vietnamese,” he said in a statement.
He added that in the operation, a 39-year-old Nigerian was also arrested for drug possession when police found him with 13.5g of cannabis.“He is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Acts 1952 for possession of drugs, while the rest are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959, Passport Act 1966 and Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007,” he said.
