KUALA LUMPUR: Notorious militant Mohamad Wanndy Mohamad Jedi is high on Bukit Aman’s wanted list after masterminding a few Islamic State (IS) terror plots, including the Movida bombing.
At least three terror plots planned by cells taking orders from Mohamad Wanndy have been thwarted by the Counter Terrorism Division.
The division’s head Deputy Comm Datuk Ayob Khan (pic) said the latest intelligence showed that he was still in Syria.
“We aim to disrupt his communication with terror cells in Malaysia.
“We have been fortunate so far, having quelled nine terror plots over the past three years.
"At least three were on the orders of Mohamad Wanndy,” said DCP Ayob.
DCP Ayob said Mohamad Wanndy often used an intermediate from a terror cell to communicate with another terror cell to make it harder for authorities to uncover the “whole picture”.
“That way, if one terror cell is detained, its members only know one part of the plan,” he said.
On the bombs that have been seized – an IED and a grenade, DCP Ayob said police were investigating the source of the materials.
“As I mentioned before, we will be very worried if the different terror cells are able to establish a working network among themselves."
The top priority is to detain all those linked to IS , be it actual militants, funders or even sympathisers, added SAC Ayob.
“We have to be a step ahead of them at all times,” he said.
