PUTRAJAYA, July 29 ― In an emotional speech, outgoing Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) head Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed urged his officers today to support his successor who was appointed from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Without naming his successor Datuk Dzulkifli Ahmad, Abu Kassim, whose last day as MACC chief commissioner falls on August 1, said support was very much needed for the person heading the anti-graft commission.

"Please give him, who is not an ‘internal man’, your support because without this, it will be very hard to move forward," he said at an event to bid farewell to him and two of his deputies.

Deputy chief commissioner (prevention) Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali will be transfered to assume the director-general position with the Immigration Department from August 1, while deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Seri Shukri Abdull will be attending a course before retiring in October.

Earlier, Mustafar and Shukri had to hold back tears when addressing hundreds of MACC officers, who were also seen weeping when listening to both senior officers speak before them for one last time.

Shukri took a good one-minute pause when he stood before the crowd to speak.

"I just want to say I'm sorry if I had done or said anything wrong that hurt any of you...please forgive me," he said, after standing still for a moment.

"And to you, Tan Sri (Abu Kassim) and Datuk Seri (Mustafar), you are both great men and I wish you both the best," he said.

Shukri also urged MACC officers to work without fear when investigating a case even if it involved high-level officials.
