PETALING JAYA: CIMB Group chairman Datuk Seri Nazir Razak has addressed the furore following a report by
The Wall Street Journal that he confirmed receiving about US$7mil (RM29.45mil) from the Prime Minister for distribution to Barisan Nasional politicians.
“Understand furore and with hindsight wish I didn’t. In run up to GE13, I was asked by my brother/party president to urgently help pass on cash to party machinery,” said Nazir, who is the younger brother of Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, on his Instagram post.
He assumed and believed, in good faith, that the funds came from “legit political fund-raising”.
“Entire amount was distributed, not a sen retained by me,” Nazir added in the caption.
