IGP instructed the Police to investigate claims by a Twitter user that he had been offered a bribe to settle a traffic summons

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today instructed the Police Cyber Investigation Response Centre (PCIRC) to investigate claims by a Twitter user that he had been offered a bribe to settle a traffic summons.
Khalid had asked PCIRC to call the man, who goes by the handle @timothydavid5, to probe him on his claims.
The IGP, via his Twitter handle @KBAB51, had attached a screen grab of the man’s claims.
Khalid wrote: “PCIRC @PDRMSia panggil lah @timothydavid5 dibawah untuk siasatan kita ekoran tohmahannya, (PCIRC @PDRMsia, please call up @timothydavid5 for investigation following his allegation).
The screen grab depicted a comment by @timothydavid5, who said that he was openly asked a bribe to settle his summons at the
Tun HS Lee traffic police station.
It was understood that the man had published his tweet last night. He claimed that he was told by a woman at the counter that while the summons amount was RM300, he could get a discount and he needed only pay RM160.
However, he claimed he was told that the receipt would reflect only RM100.
Reaction among Twitter users was mixed, with some criticising the IGP and others advising @timothydavid5 to step forward and assist the investigation.
One user, @ML7991 advised @timothydavid5 to do a proper report and not simply resort to channeling his grievance via social media.
However, @timothydavid5 retorted that if the IGP can “make a report via Twitter, why can’t I?”
