KUALA LUMPUR: Responding to a Twitter complaint, the Transport Minister made a surprise check at a Road Transport Department (JPJ) branch here.
At 3.30pm Monday, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai paid a visit to Wangsa Maju's JPJ branch, only to discover that the waiting time for licence renewal was twice as long as the target set.
"I have directed the officers here to add more counters or make the system more efficient. I have also set a Key Performance Indicator that waiting time for customers should not exceed half an hour," he said.
Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai found out that each Kiosk could only serve 50 to 100 customers before running out of road tax stickers.
Apart from the long queue, Liow also discovered myriad problems plaguing the branch, which includes limited parking and capacity for its three automated kiosks.
The Minister is studying the possibility of extending kiosk services after office hours and moving some of JPJ's services online in the long term.
"People can just go online to enjoy the same services without coming to JPJ (branches)," Liow said.
