Pricey: As expected the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus cost more due to the weaking Ringgit.

It's just a little past midnight and the major telcos in Malaysia have finally started to announce their price plans for the new Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

While the launch of any new iPhone is usually preceded by much anticipation and speculation, this year's release in Malaysia is especially interesting because consumers here have been waiting to find out how much higher the price of the new devices would be, taking into consideration the weakening Ringgit.

While the Apple Malaysia website has yet to reveal the actual price of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Maxis and Digi have already set up pre-order pages with their pre-order prices as well as the list price of the devices.

Pre-order prices: Maxis announced prices at midnight.

According to the Maxis website, the iPhone 6s will have a list price of RM3,099 for the 16GB version, RM3,599 for 64GB and RM4,099 for 128GB.

Meanwhile the larger iPhone 6s Plus will have a price one step higher for each comparable version, so it'll be RM3,599 for the 16GB, RM4,099 for 64GB and RM4,499 for 128GB.

However, Maxis and Digi seem to be in disagreement over what the actual Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of the devices is as Digi lists the iPhone 6s at RM3,199 (16GB), RM3,699 (64GB) and RM4,199 (128GB) while the iPhone 6s Plus RRP is RM3,699 (16GB), RM4,199 (64GB) and RM4,699 (128GB).

As far as pricing plans go Digi is offering the 16GB iPhone 6s for as low as RM1,152 after rebates for the most expensive SmartPlan 238 or RM2,760 after rebates for the cheapest SmartPlan 50 for the same phone.

DiGi's prices for the 16GB iPhone 6s Plus will be RM1,577 and RM3,185 for the SmartPlan 238 and SmartPlan 50 respectively.

Meanwhile, Maxis is offering the 16GB iPhone 6s for as low as RM1,260 after rebates when going for the RM250 iValue 3 plan or RM2,160 for the RM100 iValue 1 plan.

As for the iPhone 6s Plus, Maxis' prices start at RM1,685 for the 16GB version and iValue 3 and RM2,415 for the same phone with iValue 1.

Both Maxis and Digi are promising customers who pre-order from now till Oct 15 that they will receive their phones by midnight on Oct 16 when the new iPhones are due to be released, although Digi is limiting midnight delivery to the first 300 customers.

At the time of writing, only Maxis and Digi have revealed their pricing plans while Celcom only has a pre-order page up and U Mobile has yet to launch a specific page for iPhone 6s and 6s Plus pre-orders.
