2 superbikers die in crash (video)

KUALA LUMPUR: TWO superbikers were killed and another two suffered serious injuries after their superbikes were involved in an accident at Km25 of the Karak Highway yesterday morning.
The four were part of a superbike convoy heading for the capital when they were believed to have lost control of their machines, resulting in the 11.20am incident.
One of the riders crashed into a car on the highway while three other superbikes, believed to be tailgating the first, also went down.
Five cars that could not avoid the machines were involved in the accident.
One of the bikers pinned under one of the motorcycles was burnt to death when two of the bikes caught fire, while another, who was found unconscious on the road, died later.
The dead have been identified as Zali Khalid, 40, and Md Nizam Hanapiah, 57. The two seriously injured bikers and the deceased were sent to Selayang Hospital.
A witness, Mohd Fauzi Hassan, 34, said he was on his way back from Kuantan when he saw the convoy heading in the same direction.
“I noticed the bikers tailgating one another on the highway and there were at least five similar motorcycles in the convoy. I and my wife were admiring the superbikes travelling in front of us when one of them tried to overtake a car and crashed into another car,” said the accounts executive.

Fauzi said the other bikers involved in the accident were those tailgating.
“Few others (bikers) in the convoy managed to avoid (the crash) because they were some distance away from the three,” he told the New Straits Times.
Fauzi said he was lucky that his car was a distance away from the superbikes and there were other cars ahead of his.
Fauzi said a few drivers got out of their vehicles to help the biker who was stuck among the piled-up motorcycles, but before they knew it, two of the machines that were
involved in the accident caught fire.
“One biker was stuck underneath it (the pile) and another two had rolled out on the road.”
Selayang Fire and Rescue department chief Ismail Kamarudin said they received a distress call at 11.22am and a fire engine arrived 15 minutes later at the scene.
“We put out the fire within minutes, but unfortunately one of the bikers, who was pinned under the wreck, was burnt,” he said, adding that another, believed to be hit by a car at the same time was dead when they arrived at the scene.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
