Obama defers trip to Malaysia over shutdown

KUALA LUMPUR: US president Barack Obama has cancelled his trip to Malaysia next week to tackle his government partial shutdown crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced today.

He said he received a call from Obama early this morning and the latter offered his regret for the cancellation but promised to make the visit on a later date.

Najib told the media after launching the expansion of the Sepang Aircraft Engineering that Obama will be represented by his secretary of State John Kerry.

Obama was initially scheduled to address the Fourth Global Entrepreneurship Summit on October 11 here.
