A woman was found bound in metal chains and locks squatting by the roadside, near some parked cars.

Woman found chained by roadside

What happened?: The woman lying on the road after firemen released her from the chains.

SERDANG: Nothing much happens in the quiet neighbourhood surrounding the Serdang Raya 3k complex building here until yesterday.

At around 10am, passers-by spotted a woman bound in metal chains and locks squatting by the roadside, near some parked cars.

The woman, in her 20s, was later freed by a team of police and firemen.

A check with the police revealed little about the woman and how she had ended up in chains by the roadside.

The Star tracked down the woman’s address to a house about a five-minute drive from where she was found.

However, the house was empty and looked abandoned. Some of its window panes were broken and the front yard was overgrown with weed.

In the backyard, one of the neighbours, an elderly man, was tending to his chicken.

When asked, he said he had gotten permission from the house’s owner to rear his chicken there.

“The family who rented the house had moved out,” he said.

The chains and locks that were used to bind the woman.

Another neighbour, who recognised a picture of the woman, painted a sad tale of a broken marriage and alcohol abuse.

“She is a drunk. I still remember the day when she was once found walking naked in the streets after drinking one night.

“She used to stay in this rented house with her husband and three young children until he couldn’t take her addiction anymore and divorced her,” said the neighbour, who declined to be named.

The house has been left abandoned for about a year.

The neighbour could not tell what happened to the woman after she moved out. Apparently, she worked at a factory nearby.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said police were notified of the incident following a distress call at about 9am that a woman was found chained by the roadside near the MPSJ hall at Seri Kembangan.

“Investigations revealed the victim was set free by firemen and was taken away by her elder brother.

“We have not been able to get any details on the identity of the victim or on the case.

“We urge the victim, her elder brother and the firemen involved in freeing the victim to come forward,” he said, adding that no report had been lodged on the incident so far.

Those with information on the case should contact the police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or visit the nearest police station.
