Man who hit wife with helmet in viral video gets 15 months' jail

The accused was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment following the incident.
GUA MUSANG: A labourer who hit his wife with a helmet in a viral video clip on Jan 25 was sentenced to 15 months of imprisonment at a Magistrate Court, here today.
The accused, Mohd Shamsuri Rokman Yusuf, 35, pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him before Judge Tengku Shahrizam Tuan Lah.
He was charged with deliberately assaulting his wife Siti Norhashikin Che Mat, 35, with a red helmet in front of a restaurant at Paloh 2 at 5pm on Jan 25.
He was charged under Section 324 and Section 326A of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 10 years' jail or fine or whipping or any of the punishments, while the Section 326A of the Penal Code, if convicted, carries imprisonment for a term which may extend to twice of the maximum term.
The accused was represented by Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangaan counsel Ahmad Firdaus Abdul Hamid, while prosecution was carried out by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad.
Ahmad Firdaus pleaded for a lower punishment as the accused has five children and is taking care of his sick mother.
The court sentenced the 15 months' jail term to start from the date he was arrested on Jan 28.
The media recently reported that the unemployed man was arrested at a house in RKT Kesedar Paloh 2, here on Jan 28.
