CENTRAL MELAKA: The body of a man believed to be an Army commando who was feared to have drowned while practicing diving in the waters of Pulau Undan, here 12 days ago, was found in Tanjung Sepat, Banting, Selangor on Sunday.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said, however, the true identity of the body involved could not be confirmed due to its imperfect condition.

"Early information, a body was found in the mangrove beach area in Tanjung Sepat, Banting. A complete report will be announced later as the identity of the victim is not yet known.

“(But) so far it is very positive (he is a missing commando) based on the diving suit he was wearing. Regardless, we have to wait for identity confirmation from the post-mortem process due to the incomplete condition of the body," he said when contacted here on Sunday.

Astro AWANI on February 7 reported that Lance Corporal Edrin Baintim, 25, went missing while undergoing diving training at a position 0.7 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Undan.

The victim is said to have disappeared during the Harimau Exercise Exercise which is a diver course with six officers and 37 participants from the Sungai Udang Special Warfare Training Center (PULPAK) camp.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation was carried out for seven days involving various agencies including members of PULPAK, Mine Diving Team, KD Duyong and also the Civil Defense Force (APM) Rescue Diver Team.

Putrajaya's Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) also sought assistance from the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas).

The operation then continued until the 10th day of the search which ended last Tuesday.
