KUALA LUMPUR: The Election Commission (EC) will discuss and determine the important date of the 15th General Election (GE15) following the Proclamation of the Dissolution of the 14th Parliament by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, this afternoon.
EC Secretary, Datuk Ikmalrudin Ishak, said the matter will be discussed through a special meeting to be held.
He said, the meeting will also take into account the implementation of the By-Election (PRK) for the Bugaya State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seat in Sabah on a date to be announced later.
At the same time, he said, the EC informed that postal vote applications for domestic and overseas for GE15 will open immediately, but the application closing date will be notified later after the meeting to determine the election date.
In the meantime, he said, postal vote applications for Category 1A, which are for election officials, EC members or officers, police and military personnel, as well as media personnel must apply manually using Form 1A.
"Form 1A can be downloaded from the EC's official portal at https://www.spr.gov.my and sent to the Office of the Managing Officer of the Electoral Division concerned. The address and information of the Managing Officer's Office can be consulted on the EC's official portal as well.
"Applications for Category 1B, which is for Malaysians who are abroad and Category 1C involving agencies or organizations, need to be submitted online through the portal https://myspr.spr.gov.my/login ," he said in a statement. today.
Earlier, the Prime Minister announced that he had the approval of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the dissolution of the 14th Parliament, effective today.
It is in accordance with Article 40(2)(b) and Article 55(2) of the Federal Constitution, when the Yang di-Pertuan Agong acts according to his majesty's discretion to approve the request.
