KUALA LUMPUR: A retiree has been fined RM5,000 for making a post on Facebook with the intent to offend others.

Sessions Court judge Zainal L. Saleh made the order after Kamarzaman Mustafa, 56, pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday.

In his judgment, judge Zainal said the court took into consideration Kamarzaman's guilty plea and health problems and that the sentence reflected the seriousness of the offence committed.

He said the posting, which concerned the import of meat, had gone viral and Kamarzaman had failed to post an apology following the initial posting.

Kamarzaman paid the fine.
