IPOH: Twelve “Gang 36” members have been arrested over the attack of seven youths in Chemor on Deepavali day.
Perak Criminal Investigation Department head Senior Asst Comm Datuk Gan Tian Kee said the arrests were made on Monday and Tuesday at several locations in Chemor.
He said police were looking to arrest eight more people, including the gang leader, over the attack.
SAC Gan said the youths, aged between 21 and 24 years old, were hanging out at an open space in Kampung Pisang in Chemor at 2am, when the gang members approached them.
“The suspects claimed that the youths had ‘entered their area’ and started to attack them with weapons.
“The victims were hurt in the process, and the suspects managed to run away when the police arrived,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters here.
SAC Gan said that of the 12 nabbed, three had previous criminal records for causing severe injury, trespassing and violating a restraining order.
Thirteen sharp objects of various sizes, including a parang, knife and a “kerambit” (curved knife) were seized from the suspects.
Also seized were two motorcycles used by the suspects.
All the suspects, aged between 21 and 36 years old, have been remanded for four days.
