Shop assistant claims trial to rioting for attack on Vietnam supporters

SHAH ALAM: Another football fan was charged in the magistrates court here with attacking Vietnamese supporters during the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-finals between Malaysia and Vietnam.
Shop assistant Muhamad Izzat Mohd Khir, 25, claimed trial to rioting by attacking Vietnam supporters who were seated at Quadrant A area of Shah Alam Stadium, in Section 13 Shah Alam at 9.50pm on Dec 7.
Under Section 147 of the Penal Code, Muhamad Izzat faces up to two years jail, a fine or both, if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Rustam Sanip offered bail at RM8,000.
However, Muhamad Izzat's counsel Nik Mohamed Ikhwan Nik Mahamud pleaded for liniency, saying his client had to help his mother run her batik shop and take care of four younger siblings.
Magistrate Norshakinah Ahmad Kamarudin allowed bail at RM2,800 with one surety and set Jan 22 for next mention.
Five other Malaysian supporters, including two brothers, had on Dec 17 been charged in relation to the same offence.
The five - Amirul Akmal Nooradzhar, 22, Zulhelmy Akmal Zainol Abidin, 28, Muhammad Naquiyuddin Sallehuddin, 19, siblings Mohd Aminuddin Hamdan, 34 and Noor Hadi Hamdan, 29, claimed trial to rioting during the AFF Suzuki Cup semi-finals.
Magistrate Ellyana Razali allowed bail at RM2,800 each with one surety and set Jan 22 next year, for mention.
