SEPANG: The life of Road Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement officers out on the field is under threat yet again, as witnessed in a recent incident.
During the incident at 11.40am last Tuesday, a Toyota Hilux with a driver and two passengers emerged near the exit of the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) in Putra Perdana and grazed an official car that three JPJ officers were in.
Sepang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Yusoff Awang said that the driver of the JPJ vehicle was forced to pull over but did not exit the car for fear of his safety.
“That was when the driver of the Toyota Hilux got out of his car and made a hand gesture of pulling the trigger of a gun,” ACP Mohd Yusoff said at a press conference yesterday.
He said the officers had been monitoring an operation on overloaded lorries in the area prior to the incident.
The officers then proceeded to the Putrajaya police headquarters to lodge a report.
Two of the three men in their 20s and 30s, who were in the Toyota Hilux, were detained in Banting the following day but were later released on bail.
Police also seized two Toyota Hiluxes.
They believed that the motive behind the attack was a warning for enforcement officers not to interfere in the suspects’ business.
Police are now looking for 24-year-old Ang Gee Thiam, also from Banting, to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 506/279 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and dangerous driving.
Meanwhile, ACP Mohd Yusoff said 1,209 illegal gambling machines worth about RM483,600 had been destroyed by the Sepang police in a bid to clamp down on illicit activities in the district.
“Between January and November this year, we raided 1,126 premises in the district.
“A total of 199 caretakers and owners were detained, while 1,947 machines were seized,” he said.
