KUALA LUMPUR: Mohd Farish Abu Bakar’s face lit up when city traffic police officers visited him at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).
The nine-year-old leukaemia patient requires a wheelchair as he is weak. But he was so happy to get a ride on a police motorcycle during a community policing event by the city traffic police at the hospital’s paediatric ward yesterday.
His mother Norlela Md Sahad, 38, said Mohd Farish was diagnosed with leukaemia in July last year and had to undergo chemotherapy in HKL this year.
She said her son had always wanted to be a policeman, and they met another patient Mohd Iman Adli, seven, whose father, L/Kpl Mohd Firdaus, is a traffic policeman.
“They met at the paediatric ward.
“Whenever Mohd Iman’s father came by to visit, he would be in his police uniform. My son said he liked the police uniform. He told me it looked very ‘smart’,” Norlela said.
“He dreams of becoming a traffic policeman and he wanted to ride a police motorcycle.
“He told his friend Mohd Iman to ask his father to take him for a ride on a police motorcycle even though I told him it was not allowed.”
Norlela said she was very thankful that the city traffic police were kind enough to grant her son’s wish.
City traffic police chief Asst Comm Mohd Nadzri Hussain said they were glad to grant the boy’s request during their community policing event.
“This is the first time that we are holding our community policing event here in HKL. We hope to organise more of such events in the future,” he added.
ACP Mohd Nadzri said 60 personnel and officers took part in yesterday’s programme. They also presented 150 goodie bags to patients and staff at the paediatric ward.
