KUALA LUMPUR: What was supposed to be a vacation turned awry for a family of five when they found a hidden camera in the bathroom of their homestay.

The family went on a short trip to Ipoh during the Hari Raya break and rented a room in the homestay there.
Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said one of the family members said they were taking turns to shower in the only bathroom in the house.
“He was the last one in. When he took off his clothes, he noticed a strange hole on the ceiling,” Lim said.
“He quickly put his clothes back on and got on a chair to check it out,” he told reporters at his service centre here yesterday.
Lim said the 31-year-old man soon realised that it was a CCTV camera.
He called the police who, when they arrived, told the homestay manager to unlock all the rooms in the house, Lim said.
“They discovered a small room with a computer inside, recording the footage from the camera.”
Lim said the computer contained videos of the man’s girlfriend taking a bath.
The manager claimed that the cameras were placed in the bathroom to check on thefts.
“When the man lodged a report at the Sungai Senam police station, he said the investigating officer did not take down his statement but instead asked him to settle the case with the homestay owner.
“The case was classified as a civil case by the investigating officer,” Lim said.
Getting nowhere with the authorities, one of the family members, who lives in Segambut, approached Lim for help.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said he was aware of the case and was looking into it.
