Ex-convict killed, rogue cop injured in their attempt to rob a group of foreign workers

SHAH ALAM: The crime spree of an ex-convict and a rogue policeman came to an end when a group of foreign workers they wanted to rob turned the tables on them.
The ex-convict was beaten to death while the policemen, who had gone absent without official leave (AWOL), suffered injuries.
The two men had been committing crimes by claiming that they were carrying out police checks.
The policeman went AWOL after running into disciplinary problems a year ago.
They first robbed a couple at a house in Bukit Jelutong at around 6am on Thursday.
Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Rahim Jaafar said the two men entered the couple’s house using the policeman’s police identification card.
“They then robbed and attempted to rape the woman, an Indonesian, before leaving,” he told reporters at the Selangor police headquarters here yesterday.
“However, the man accidentally left his wallet, which contained his police identification card, at the house.”
The two men then went to rob the workers in Section 13, also posing as policemen.
“We believe the foreigners realised they were being cheated when the robbers were unable to produce any identification and attacked the two robbers.
“The ex-convict, from Kelantan, died while the fugitive policeman suffered a broken arm and head injuries,” he said.
DCP Abdul Rahim said the man, who was attached with the Shah Alam police headquarters, was on the run after being investigated for some disciplinary issue.
“We had been looking for him all this while,” he said. “And now, we find him involved in this case.”
The man is being treated at the Klang hospital while the police are tracking the foreigners who attacked the duo.
