GEORGE TOWN: A 5km high-speed chase ended with the suspects’ car scraping about 10 parked vehicles in Solok Sungai Pinang here.
As the car screeched to a stop, policemen on motorcycles blocked its path.
One suspect fled on foot, while the driver locked himself inside the car.The police had to smash a window to arrest him.
The police had begun chasing the two suspects from Tingkat Paya Terubong 3 in Paya Terubong at about 6pm on Thursday when the duo sped off upon spotting them.
George Town OCPD ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the police were working on tracing the escaped suspect.
“The suspect who was arrested is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties,” he said during the Kampung Baru police station Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house on Thursday night.
In an update yesterday, ACP Mior Faridalatrash said the suspect in detention had tested positive for drugs, and this was believed to be the reason why he had tried to evade arrest.
He said the police had obtained a three-day remand order for the suspect, adding that they did not find anything incriminating in the car.
