National cyclist killed hit by an escort
DUNGUN: National cyclist Asmuni Ali was killed after he was hit by an escort vehicle during a training session near Kampung Pulau Serai here at 11am today.
Asmuni suffered serious died on the spot from serious head injuries.
District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Zailani Yaakub said the victim was with the several other cyclists on a training ride from Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan.
In the incident at the KM71 of the Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan road near Kampung Pulau serai, the 20-year-old victim from Kuala Ibai was riding in front of an escorting van.
Ahmad Zailani said in the escort van from the Terengganu Cycling Association was passing a pack of food to Asmuni but he skidded and fell from his bike.
"Asmuni was then hit by the van," he said.
He said the victim's body was sent to the Dungun hospital for post mortem.
