Kuala Lumpur (KL) City continued to create history in the AFC Cup when they advanced to the final after defeating the Uzbek club, PFC Sogdiana 5-3 through a penalty shoot-out in the inter-zonal final at the Sogdiana Sports Complex Stadium, just now.

The success saw Bojan Hodak's squad now one step closer to equaling Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT) record of winning the AFC Cup in 2015.

In the match, Sogdiana made more attempts towards the goal of KL City, but they were disappointed by the disciplined action of the City Boys' defense and the agility of the goalkeeper, Kevin Mendoza.

KL City's best chance to score came in the 80th minute, but Romel Morales failed to finish Zhafri Yahya's cross in front of the Sogdiana goal.

The goal deadlock between the two teams continued until the end of extra time which saw the winner having to be decided by a penalty shootout.

Mendoza's brilliance continued as he managed to save Shokhruz Jurabekov's kick before Giancarlo Galifuoco converted KL City's final kick to take the City Boys squad to the final stage.

KL City will face the Omani club, Al-Seeb, who also created history as the first team from the country to reach the final of the AFC Cup.

Al-Seeb first confirmed their place in the final when they defeated the representative of Bahrain, Al-Riffa 4-0 in the West Zone final, yesterday.
