Malaysia lost to Vietnam after a penalty shootout in the final of the Thanih Nien Cup 2022. | Vietnam (4) 1 - 1 (3) Malaysia | Final U-19 ||

 

Malaysia fell 4-3 in a penalty shootout today to hosts Vietnam in the Under-19 Newspaper Cup, also known as the Thanh Nien international tournament.

The match had ended in a 1-1 stalemate after 90 minutes at the Binh Duong Stadium with goals from Vietnam's Nguyen Van Tu (11th minute) and Malaysia's Azhad Harraz Arman (84th).

Coach Hassan Sazali Waras brought a team of mostly second stringers to Vietnam while retaining six players from his AFF Under-19 championship winning-squad.
